Full Case (12 Bottles) Ashton Hills 2004 RieslingPrice: $360.00 Ashton Hills Vineyard (Stephen George) says: "We've always cellared at least a few dozen of all of our wines to see how they develop. And now that we are using screw caps we can confidently commercially re-release the odd interesting wine without worrying that it may be suffering from some cork related problem which so often is exascerbated by time. Since bottling all of these wines have been stored at 16 deg C." When a young wine, Huon Hooke remarked:- "Typical of this maker, this is a shy, underdeveloped wine smelling of minerals, not citrus fruit. The palate is very delicate and needs time but is smooth and fluent and avoids harshness. Lovely balance and texture. Very long. Cellar 2-8 years." (Huon Hooke, Gourmet Traveller Wine, Autumn 2005) Judges at the Winewise Wine Show (2005) gave the wine a Gold Medal. "On recent tasting (6/6/08) I still agreed pretty much with Huon Hooke's remarks of 3 years ago. There's that same smoothness he refers to and the wine is still remarkably tight, crisp and long. The only flavour development is a hint of creme brulee which may be the precursor of that hot buttered toast character some rieslings achieve. I'd give the wine up to at least another 5 years."
